Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum

Built in 1865 by Robert Tinker, the original Tinker Cottage sits on a limestone bluff. It is a spectacular Swiss chalet style home.

We have been involved in the restoration of this facility since 1978. We plan annually anywhere from $30-60,000 a year, in capital improvements to restore the Cottage and its structure. It is a long term program to restore one of Rockford's great treasures.

We plan the annual maintenance and restoration work for the cottage. Past elements of the plan have included rewiring the building and providing a sophisticated lightswitching system. We also reinforced two rooms on the second floor that were having significant structural problems and causing damage to the detailed, painted plaster ceilings in the front parlor and dining room. Additional improvements have included a new wood shingle roof and a repainted exterior in its original colors. We are continuing repairs to the plaster walls and restoring the decorative ceiling and wall paintings.
